Time for lunch

Just about to go in to the women in neurochemistry lunch, judging by the saddos that have already entered the room it will be pretty dire. Oh well. I will let you know. LOL

Catch up

I was just reading back over some old posts. Bunty is still with us, she has been with us for just over 4 years, a week over. Considering she had 6 months to live that is pretty impressive. And she is as cute and energetic as ever, she sleeps a lot, and doesn't seem to want to play as much, but she still loves to run.

And we found a great vet.

End of the day

It is the end of the day, and I have just had supper on the terrace watching the sun go down over the water, watching the herons, pelicans and geese fly by. WHo could ask for more? Well I could ask for my wife to be with me, but that is not to be on this trip.

Now I will watch CSI Miami, do some work, and maybe get some sleep tonight.

Final seminar sesson of the day

That was an interesting talk on the role of MBP in the myelin membrane. will add to my RTT grant. Joan Boggs, she of the crappy grant review LOL!!!

Just saw Herb Geller (shudder). No sign of Jim Goldman, which is a surprise, I was hoping Liz would come too so I could borrow her eyebrow tweezers LOL!!!

WB gave a pretty good talk, interesting, and not at all controversial or stupid. The previous speaker got into an argument with a questioner about the validity of someone elses work, which had a lot of the audience laughing because the questioner was basically saying that OP express PLP. Winsome was laughing too, and everyone was asking who the guy was, P seems to think there is a poster to the same effect, so I will seek it out.

RG has been quiet in the discussions, and the room is not full, unlike nextdoor where there are about 5 people in the room altogether! LOL

Random thoughts

OMG that dyke I saw in Chicago is here at the meeting! Well I am assuming a dyke, as I can’t stare LOL But if it is a man then I am geeling sorry for him.

Just had breakfast, buffet, not too good, the hotel coffee is shite. The sausages are too spice for my tastes. And I just saw RG walk through the foyer, dresssed down more than I expected, greyer than before, but looking just as miserable. I didn't look up to see if she saw me! LOL!!! Oh life is but a dream shh boom.

Sunday blahs

I couldn't get to sleep last night, I lay there wide awake for hours. I tried reading, I tried watching Lockup Raw, I tried everything. Last time I looked at the clock it was 3am, which was really 4am because the clockes went forward, then I was woken by room service at 6am which was really 7am! So i just went back to sleep. Missed the introductory session, and the welcome speeches (uhuh). Now I am sitting here, and I couldn't care less about the meeting at all. The coffee isn't helping either, which is unusual, but they gave me cream instead of milk so I didn't put much in.

At least I don't have to iron a shirt for today.

I guess I should try to get going, although I feel like crap.

It is a nice day, we sat outside and watched a wedding party have their pics taken. I thought they were mormons to start with because there were three young men, in matching suits. Then I saw a bunch more men in the same suits, and realised it must be a wedding LOL. They had the cutest little flower girl too, I couldn't get a pic, but she was about 3, and all in frothy pink.

Saturday morning

I was woken up by room service, and have drunk my OJ, eaten my croissants, and had a half cup of coffee and am now thinking of going back to bed.

Well I do have a few hours to kill. Of course I didnt' sleep well, the pillows are far too big and I was too hot, I felt all twisted up for some reason too.

I see it is -20 back home, I have no idea what the temp is here, but it looks like a nice day, blue sky etc out of the window.

Flamin Nora

These time zones will be the death of me! Flight too off 5 minutes ago, and will be here in 10 minutes! I don't understand that at all. But anyway. I am at the wrong gate, but I needed to find a plug so I could at least try to get some work done, and all I did was wander round the flamin airport looking for a functional outlet! Finally found one, only for the damn flight to be almost ready to board!!!!!

ARGH!!!!

Update on sleazy neighbours

After the junkie moved out, we had a nice native family from up North move in. There were a lot of them, but the son was happy to shovel the driveway for us for $20. There were a lot of coming and goings, but essentially they were quiet and friendly. Then they disappeared. Turned out they hadn't paid the rent in a while, and the landlord had been trying to get rid.

Then ayoung man move in, friendly, went to some effort to clean up the place. Was away a lot as he worked in construction. After a few months we were startled out of our seats by loud shouting in the back, and cops arresting some guy who had a gun. They broke in to the house and searched looking for someone else to arrest. Turns out it was another grow op!!!!! Can you believe that!??!?!

Anyway, things only got weirder, a family from Florida, in a brand new hummer (organge) husband, wife and two kids. Seikhs and very friendly. Too friendly, they couldn't get their story straight! He said one thing, she said another, they had come from a huge house into a house that was smaller than their kitchen had been. They had nothing, no furniture, no sheets towels or anything like that. They had to go to walmart and buy it all! They stayed about 3 months before finding a bigger place in the country. Leaving just before we called MPI because they hadn't reregistered their car.

Bow we have a very nice quiet, couple in there. We haven't seen them other than as they shovel the snow, or she walks to her car at the back. They have two HUGE satellite dishes, so I guess they watch a lot of TV.

So all is peaceful and quiet. Minnie and Goofy don't bother us at all, we haven't heard from Misery and Heffalump in ages, and all is right with the world.

Later the same day

The flight is delayed for no apparent reason, but as the plane is still in Dayton Ohio, I wonder when we will get out of here.

I just bunmped into my graduate student too. Gave her some work to do LOL!!!!! She is chatting to some random guy. I guess now she knows I am nearby if she needs to be rescued!

I have now eaten all my provisions, and a packet of chips that I purchased from the nearby greasy burger stand.

I should have got a beer, but to be honest I don't really feel like one.

Blogging from the airport

It has been so long since I blogged. I don't know why I suddenly thought to start again.

I am thinking of setting up a blog for the lab. I should. Anyway, I am at the airport, Chicago. My flight is delayed by over an hour, which is a bitch because I was hoping to get some food once I got to the hotel, it isn't likely that room service will still be operating when I get there. Sucks for me.

I am either having a hotflash that is lasting hours, or I am so acclimatized to Winnipeg weather, that now I am in a climate that is over 0 degrees I am dying of heat!

Random thoughts, there are always weirdo's at airports, there is a guy with incredible acne sitting starting at people and doing weird things with his mouth. I bet I get stuck next to him on the plane. Oh no, he got up to board his plane~! Talking of planes, I got stuck next to a HUGE woman on a teeny tiny plane getting here. I had to move, there just wasn't room for us both in the seat. She had already put the arm rest up, but I was jammed in between her and the window.

More random thoughts, the woman sitting opposite me has the most AWFUL hair that you can imagine. She is young though and probably thinks that she looks nive LOL!! Oh well.

As no doubt no one will read this blog, I will continue to post through the week. You never know what might happen of interest. Probably nothing. In the meantime, I should try to find some money!

Problem Solved

He is moving out, so we don't need to worry about whether or not to call the cops on him anymore. I just hope that a nice couple with no kids and no dogs moves in. But we aer not the landlords of the place so we have to get what we get. But the house will not attract nice people unless they are poor. The inside is probably a wreck, the outside it for sure a wreck. I am amazed that the front porch hasn't fallen off already it is in such bad shape.

So watch this space to see if we get nice neighbours. If you care that is :D

The big question

Firstly, happy new year to all my readers. All two of you :D I am in a weird position at the moment. I will attempt to explain. Basically our next door neighbour rents his place from a sleazy guy who only cares about getting his money on time. The house is practicaly falling down. A couple of months ago the guy was arrested on a drug bust, and spent about 5 hours in prison before coming home again. Since then he has been keeping a really low profile. Really low. To the point that he doesnt even turn on his lights at night. Almost as if he is trying to make it look like he isnt there. But I digress. The other day we noticed that he has got his old car back. Some time ago his car died and he was without transport for a few days, then suddently a new car (new old car) appeared. Well now he has the old car back. But, the old car has the same tags as the new car did. So the question is this. Should I report this? And to whom? The thing is there is no way that he could have got the plates swapped legitimately because it happened on New Year's eve, after 6pm. So, do I call? Who do I call? Big question. I just nearly emailed autopac but then do I want my name associated with the tip? If you read this and have thoughts or suggestions (other than mind your own business) please let me know.

Why don't I want to go to work?

I have just had a week off work. I needed a break. Then yesterday I had dental surgery (unexpectedly) so I didn't go in even though I was ready to. But today, I don't want to go to work. I feel like I need a break again! This is not good. I have a seminar on Thursday that I haven't started to work on yet, a journal club on Wednesday that I haven't started to work on yet, and a paper to write. As well as students to supervise. I feel like I need a longer holiday :( Wah, not fair. I am sitting here procrastinating, answering emails, playing Cubis2, and generally wasting time when I know I should be in the shower, actually I should be on the way to work already!!! I know that once I am there it will be ok, it is just the getting there that I am not mad about.
Oh well, I expect everyone goes through the same things from time to time. K is still sleeping, as is the Bunts. Not fair WAH!!!!

Why is it so hard to find information on your vet?

Our poor little puppy has to have another operation. Well we went to the vet place that we have started to take her to, it is just up the road from where we live. We get a random vet as we don't really know any of the vets there, and Bunty needs her distemper jab. The vet we saw looked like she was just out of college! She wanted us to have cytology done on a lumpectomy. Which is plain dumb because we know that Bunty's tumours are malignant, she has had mammary tumours for several years and this will be the sescond op that we have put her through for them! I asked what the advantage of having cytology was, and she said that way we would know if the tumour was malignant and if they should take the whole mammary gland out. Excuse me? Put the dog through two operations? I don't think so, so we said it is more expensive to take the whole gland out? She said no! So why would be have a lumpectomy with the risk of needing another op, if we can just have the whole gland removed? Less trauma on the dog for sure. Well she went away and did another quote (why we needed a quote I am not sure) and once again she had included the cytology!!!! I told her I would take the tissue to work and do the cytology myself (LOL!) she said I could if I wanted to! ARGH! So anyway, I just phoned the vet clinic to ask who their best surgeon was and this woman was one of them!!! LOL So I said, oh, well, who else? LMAO! Anyway we are scheduled for a consult with one of the top three on Monday, we will see if they will just remove all the remaining mammary glands, and thus prevent Bunty from keep needing to have these ops. But when I went to look the vet up on the internet, there was no information about her anywhere! So now I am wondering why you can't find information out about your vets the way you can about your human doctor. I mean for some of us it is just as important that we have a good vet and a good doctor! Esp after the last butcher did so much damage to our poor little puppy.

BTW the seamonkeys are doing well, they have settled down now and there about 12 left, swimming around in their little island paradise.

Sea-monkeys abound

It is day 7 of the sea-monkey experiment, and there are lots of the little beasties swimming around in their sea front haven. I fed them yesterday. Not strictly on schedule, but the water looked cloudy on day 5 and the book says not to feed them if the water looks cloudy. K popped by yesterday to have a look and agreed that they are cute little critters. They are still really small, I will try to take a pic today and post it.

I was just reading about someone being fired for blogging. I was interested in that because several years ago, when blogging was limited to a few computer nerds and psuedo nerds, I knew a woman who blogged about her work place. She was pretty abusive in her blog and I often wondered what would happen if the people she was writing about found out. She had her boss labeled as a complete airhead. Which was probably true, but I wouldn't think that being disrespectful and bitchy about it online was a good plan. Especially as she blogged at the end of each day from her desk! But clearly nothing happened to her, as she is still working at the same place. Destined, no doubt, to stay working in that dead end place for the rest of her life. Hmm, now who is being rude? LOL! But I haven't mentioned the place, location or even business, although I guess if you know who I am you can work it out.

Anyway, I guess my point is that blogging about your colleagues is no more a good idea than writing a book about them. Which of course I did. Many years ago now. But that was funny. In my opinion.

Sea-Monkeys day 2

So I added the sea-monkey eggs to the water today. There is weird green dye in there, and I stirred the water for the few minutes that they suggest. Now, several hours later, the water is all different densities, and I am worried that the osmolarity of the water was screwed up and the babies hatched into hypertonic water, which means that they imploded and died :( Oh no! I will have to wait until Monday now to see anything, because I am taking tomorrow off and will not be in over the weekend either. Hmm, I hope they are ok. The water is slightly cloudy and pale green.

Sea-Monkeys

I got some sea-monkeys for my birthday :D What fun! I have just got the tank started and will add the monkey eggs tomorrow. I have no idea what to expect, but I am hoping that they will make a nice addition to my office decor. To go with my Janeway cutout and magnetic dartboard. :D

Just as well I have my new pets to worry about. I am feeling very out of sorts at the moment. I checked my biorythms this morning, and they are all clashing! No wonder I have no energy, no motivation and am feeling very emotional! Just as well I can skip out of the office when I feel like it. Which the way things are going at the moment, might be anytime soon. Just sitting and waiting to see if Kay will drop by after her volunteering session.

Hmm, praps I will have some lunch, that will kill some more time.
